| I was just told I had a bladder infection cause by Group B and that I will need to have IV antibiotics during my babies birth! The information I have been reading seems scary. I have had one friend that had it and her son is ok and my sister in law had it and my nephew was very very sick! Has anyone had it and know lots about it?

Oh no. That's too bad. I know it's fairly common and it's good that they caught it ahead of time. I'm sure there are others who are on this board who will answer your call for info!

I tested positive for group b and took the antibiotics after a great deal of reluctance, because antibiotics are also harsh on a newborn and can cause problems with milk supply and establishing nursing. Antibiotics can also increase the chance of thrush. To decrease the chance of thrush as soon as your baby is born you can place yourself and your baby on a treatment of pro-biotic you can purchase these at health food stores. Both mom and baby should be taking them. Also reduce the intact of yeast, wheat, and sugar will help reduce the chances of thrush. I think I am happy with the decision we made and both myself and our son is fine.

I had Grp. B strept for both of my deliveries. I didn't have a problem with either one. Baby #2 did have a nasty diaper rash afterwards, but a bit of antifungal cream cleared it up.
I'm a microbiologist and I know a lot about Grp. B strep. What would you like to know?
