Hi:  I remember the aches and pains and sleepless nights!  You are about the same size as me (I'm 5'5 and weighed 122 when I got pregnant with my first and gained 45 pounds - my second I weighed 129 pounds and gained 33 pounds).  Pregnancy definitely puts alot of pressure on a smaller frame.  I remember the hip pains but my main pains were under my ribcage on the right side.  It felt like the baby was shoved up under my ribcage.  I thought for sure something was wrong but my doctor kept saying it was normal.  I found it was easier to sleep on my side with a pillow tucked under my stomache.  They say you are supposed to sleep on your left side (better for the baby - can't remember why), but I found I slept better on my right side.  Sleeping on the couch curled up and leaning towards it was more comfortable for me then laying flat on a bed too.  There's not much you can do about the aches and pains.  They are normal but be sure to mention them to your doctor.  At least you are lucky that you aren't pregnant in the summertime as the heat combined with the pains near drove me crazy!   The odd thing is that I kind of miss all those weird feelings now.  Feeling a baby move inside you is so amazing!

mamaneedanap- i'm sure i'll miss all these sensations. I already miss the way she was at 4-5 months when her movements were veru rapid but mild- oh and she actually fit in the ultrasound screen!! When i, nostalgically, told my DH that she grew so much he was like: oh yah, she's off to university LOL.

I do wonder what it'll be like to get my old body back though. There's always something to look forward to

..I just thought of yet ANOTHER question: Are you allowed to wear something other than the hospital gown when you're in labour? I realize that whatever i do wear will probably end up in the garbage afterwards but i'm thinking i'd be more comfortable in one of my husband's old baggy shirts.

I'm not sure if you are allowed to wear anything under the hospital gown or not.  I just assumed you were supposed to take everything off.  I don't know about a big baggy shirt underneath though as it may get in the way.  You might be able to wear a bra or tank top?  You should ask your doctor at your next visit.  He/she will be able to tell you.

was 4 pairs enough?

I know that at the hospital where we'll be delivering they discharge you after 24 hours if you had a regular birth, however, if you end up needing a c-section they keep you there for 3-4 days. So do you go prepared to stay longer just in case or you just bring whatever you need for one day and then get someone to get you more things if it's necessary?

4 pairs wasn't enough for me.  I was in labour for 21 hours and delivered just before midnight the following day so I think I spent 4 days/nights in the hospital.  That's more than usual but I couldn't pee properly without a catheter so they kept me until I could prove that I could "fill the pot".  I didn't mind staying longer as I had a private room and the nurses were really nice and fed me well!  I would bring 7 or 8 pairs of underwear just to be on the safe side as you never know how long you'll be there (I was there 3 days with my second baby too and could have stayed another night if I had really wanted to).  Every hospital is different though.  My workplace insurance covered the cost for a semi private and I paid the difference in price to have a private room.  I suppose if you don't have insurance coverage or a private room, then you wouldn't want to stay longer than necessary.  My mother ran out and bought me extra underwear - they do sell some in the hospital gift store but I think they are the mesh ones.  The pads the hospital give you don't stay in place very well so that's why I needed extras.  Better to be safe than sorry as washing underwear in the bathroom sink isn't fun!

Don't forget toiletries because you are definitely going to want a shower after! We brought our portable DVD player for while i was in labor and a couple seasons of Sex and the City, it helped take my mind off the pain of the contractions until they got REALLY bad, it also helped pass the time, magazines are good too.
