| Hello, I was just curious how many ladies have bought used cribs and how you tell if they are safe or not? I had a woman at work offer me a crib and change table for $250.00 but when I heard of other cribs for sale at $70.00 I kind of wondered what to look for in a used crib? Any input would help...as we aren't due for another 5.5mths. THanks, Erika

| Good advice by the OP. It depends on what year the crib was made. There is a regulation on the spacing between the bars-but I don't know what it is. Check Health Canada's website-they might have something there too.

| Great resource....thanks Tallgirl! I am going to be looking at a few used cribs next week but want one that has only been used by one baby! There are A LOT of people who would sell a crib that is 4yrs old for under $50.00 but I am too leary of these....I will stick to consignment stores! Thanks again for the advice, Erika - Baby #1 due Feb.3/07

Depending on the type of crib, the price may vary considerably...just like when they are new! I have a barely used crib (about 3-4 months) because my first didn't stay in it as long as we'd hoped...so we bought a second crib for nothing!!! I'm kind of peeved at myself about that. We paid $170 plus taxes for it, and since it's barely used, I'll probably try to sell it for about $100. But, our first crib will have been used by two kids for probably almost a total of four years by the time we're done with it. However, we paid $400 for it new, and it's a MUCH sturdier and higher quality crib than the cheaper one. I'll probably try for a little more when it comes time to sell it. We'll see how hard our son is on it once he gets a little older! Maybe he'll be rough on furniture and it'll just end up in the dump! One thing, though, I wouldn't buy a used mattress. Just a personal "icky" quotient, I guess! I go for a new mattress with every baby...even my own!

| Hi there. I just recently found out that I'm pregnant. I told my parents last week, and they already picked me up a used crib. It was made in 1980 and still in great condition. I was kida iffy about it myself. We noticed the exsisting hardware wasn't in ship shape, so my husband and I bought new bolts and screws. Now it's very sturdy. I think it should pass newer regulations and safety. As for prep-cleaning, I'm still looking up helpful hints. I definetly wouldn't buy a used mattress. New ones are highly recommended. I think crib's safety doesn't depend on being used or not. Even a brand new crib can be unsafe if it is not made properly. Me and my brother used the same crib, and now my cousin uses it for her daughter and it is in perfect condition and nothing happens
Anyway, if you decide to buy a new baby crib, visit the site in my signature.
Good luck
