hello my daughter was off the bottle at 12 months but my newphew was almost 3 before he was off the bottle all my brother did was take it away from him and gave him a cup with a straw and he cried alittle bit but after he realized he wasnt getting his bottle back he drank from the cup good luck

i have an 18month old daughter and a 5month old son and wanted to get my daughter off the bottle so i just simply stop giving to bottle to her and gave her a sippy cup she cried to 1st few times but after that's she learn it was the only way to get her milk.

I think we all have insecurities about our kids being too old to do such-and-such. Personally, I don't think you should be worried about the bottle at that age but I can understand why you're concerned.

Does she have any older cousins or friends that use sippy cups? Perhaps you could gently say, "Hey did you notice that Joey uses a cup now and doesn't have his bottle any more?"

My sister had a problem getting rid of bottles with her then 3 year old...what she ended up doing was having Johnny leave the bottles for Santa to take to the little babies who didn't have bottles, and he thought he was doing such a good thing for other babies that he was ok with it. She told him Santa would bring him special big boy cups in the morning. It worked!

Don't get too worried about it. I am in a similar position to you, with a 28-month old and a 9 month-old. I think the presence of the baby causes a lot of insecurity for the young toddler, so they cling to some of their baby habits, such as the bottle. (My 2-year old daughter is even still sleeping in the crib.)

I got rid of the noon bottle first. I just started to give her milk in a sippy cup. I had to warm up the milk - otherwise she would refuse to drink it. Eventually we started giving a sippy cup in the morning, and finally at night. It took a long time to get rid of the night bottle, but we just kept offering the sippy cup and eventually she accepted it.

You know your child best. In my case, it is always a mistake to push my daughter too hard. She is definitely not too sure that she wants to be a "big girl", so any mention of those words is sure to bring resistance.

I plan to make a big tada with it at 2 (next month) she is the same way but is very much into the whole i am a big girls now.

so at 2, after her big girl party we will put all her bottles in a box.

I have found some cups that drink like real cups but don't leak like them and we will be drinking out of those.

they will give it up. they just like to control that.

Just keep trying. I took the bottle away completly, went shopping for a couple cups with my children, and that was there. There were some days where they wouldn't drink milk at all just to try and get the bottle back (because like yours they would take anything else from a cup, just not the milk). After a couple days (and me feeling aweful) they drank the milk because they missed it, and that was that. It comes down to a battle of the wills at that stage. I also did this just over a year old, so at this point you will have more resistance as well.

My daughter gave up the bottle in May at 2.5 years. She also refused to drink regular milk from a cup. We went out and she picked a few cups the staws built in and that seemed to do the trick. She preferes chocolate milk too but as long as she's getting milk that is all I care about! Don't worry your little one will give up the bottle eventually!

I dont know what to say my daughter was like that too then at 22 month old she tossed her bottle in garbage so we went out and bought those cups with straws and she either drinks out of that or a plastic cup she refuses sippy cups

Hi, I'm a mother of 2 under 2, daughter who is 21 months old and a son who is 6 months old. I am having a hrd time trying get my daughter to take her milk from a cup. She has no problem with cups, as she constantly takes her water from one everyday, but she refuses to give up the bottle with her milk. Please help, does any one have any suggestions?? I am worried my daughter will be starting kindergarten and she will still be on a bottle. HELP
