I know infants don't need anything other than breast milk for the first 6 months. Also it is discouraged because it can get in the way of milk production if done too often, but if done on occasion is it ok? Does anyone else here do it? How is it going?
Also how long to boil the water for?
Lately my little one has been getting fussy at night, it appears to be gas. What are some good ways to sooth my little guy?
Thanks
Maggy

refusing formula

I'm breastfeeding mom for a 6 month old baby, and I want to introduce formula for him but he refuses it, he chewing the nipple then he spits the formula away, although I bought a suitable bottle and nipples! I've tried nursing her in a quiet area but she wants to be active and see what is going on. She refuses to take a bottle or a cup and I'm afraid she may become dehydrated. The only time she really seems to get a good feeding is once in the middle of the night. Any suggestions on how to get her to take a cup - I've tried several different types of cups and also several different bottles and nipples.

Loss of milk???

Has anyone experienced a loss of milk? She's only on one breastfeeding a day, in the mornings. Her 9 month is next week on the 25th and i wanted that to be the last day for us with the breastfeeding. My breasts do not get engorged anymore even with the feedings so far apart, so I don't think I have as much milk supply as I did. So, can anyone give me any suggestions on how to just stop. I've herd of putting cabbage in your bra, and also drinking sage tea drys up your milk supply. Does anyone know if this is a fact? has anyone tried it?

I would have loved to continue to breastfeed until she's a year, but she has two teeth and she chomped on me the other day and well now I"m terried. I've herd too many horror stories.

I'm giving her formula now. I was gonna do half formula and half homo but I think I'll just stick to formula until she's a year then introduce the homo. Are they supposed to be getting at least 4 milk services a day? is that right? because that's all my baby girl is getting and I just want to make sure thats enough.

Weaning

I am interested in hearing from those of you who went back to work how you deal with weaning. I don't want to quit BF but in 10 weeks I go back to work 3 days per week. Kalli is still nursing every 3 hours and is 10 months old. Did some of you breast feed on days when you were home and not while you were at work...did you quit the daytime feeds the times when you would be working so there is no confusion. I don't know what to do. Pumping is out for me...

Let me know.

Thanks.

not really biting but chewing?

Hi. My son is now nine months tomorrow and well he has stopped the biting of the nipple as he fell asleep. I hold his nose closed so he lets go gently and he is learning how to let go nicely on his own. My new problem is that he doesn't bite any more and that is great but he leaves his top two teeth prints in the top of my nipples while nursing which as you can understand hurts horribly but I don't know how to teach him to NOT do it that way. Any advice would be welcome because it is getting harder and harder to keep this up. As well, he constantly pinches my breast as I nurse which is very painful as well. I do take him off and put him down for that but it doesn't stop him either. Now when he wants the breast at times other than the usual because he is sick he pinches my nipples through my shirt. A very frustrating process and wondering if soymilk is ok to put him on because he won't accept any formula and when I tried the cows milk or cheese or yogurt to eat he constantly throws up and has gas pains and is up all night from them. ??? I've heard too many bad things come of it-it is after all, an entirely different species!

I also heard cow milk is actually more difficult to absorb calcium because of the animal protiens in it.

How good is soy - are you offering it?
ang

Colour of baby stools

I was wondering what should be the colour of my baby's stool. Since birth I was pumping my milk and giving to him, supplementing with formula (almost 60% breastfeeding, 40% formula). That's because he got fussy everytime I tried. But two weeks ago I tried again and he BF pretty well. Now I am also supplementing with the same formula but in a different ratio (maybe 75-25%). He's 2 months and week.
However, at the begining his stool was yellowish-mustard and now it has turned greenish and not soft (not hard though). Is it OK?

Thanks for your replies!

Being discreet while BF

My daughter is now 4 months old. Her newest trick while BF is suck, suck, suck, turn and look behind her...suck, suck, suck, turn and look behind her...then smile.

I read that at this age as they become more aware of their surroundings they start to play during feed time. This makes it very hard to nurse discreetly. I am not a shy person and do nurse in public but I like to be discreet so others are comfortable...a little hard when my daughter keeps showing my nipples to the whole world as she checks out the situation around her...I have never worn a nursing cape or put a blanket over Kalli while she is nursing and not sure how that would go over now that she is so used to being able to look around.

What do all you other moms who BF in public do? Do you just chalk it up to mommyhood and ignore that you are displaying your nipples to the whole world?

Last week I was out for coffee with my boss and I had to feed Kalli, thankgoodness she didn't do it THEN!

Breastfeeding

I just saw the name of this section and thought I'd say to anyone out there who is unsure if they are going to breastfeed or bottle feed. If you breastfeed, you won't regret it!!! Best darn thing I ever did!!! I never, ever in a million years thought I would be the type to be able to do that but boy oh boy, I did! And, I'm proud to say that my baby was a breastfed baby until she was 15 months old -- she is now 18 months. Not once did she ever see a bottle of formula. I guess I am just proud of the fact that I did it! Just realizing that you and your partner brought this life into this world, then you (as momma) sustain it, it's an amazing experience! That's all -- just feeling happy to be a momma today and every day!

Bobbi Jo

Glamour mom tanks for sale

was going to list on Ebay until I realized it was going to take an hour to figure it out as it has been so long...I thought I would post here instead.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Glamourmom check their website...these tanks are awesome! They offer discreet nursing as it covers your tummy, if you wear a front open sweater over top people can't even tell you are nursing...(I wish they fit me!)

If anyone is interested reply with your email address and I will send you info if you would like to check my credibility on EBAY I am rdtm21.

The tanks are about $55.00 each new. Send me an offer!
For those interested my bra size is a bit larger than a D 34 I haven't actually measured and my nursing bras are hand me downs. The tops do fit I can get them on, but it isn't enough support.
