Has anyone experienced a loss of milk?  I can't seem to get enough.  I have to substitue with formula.  I'm a really healthy eater, exercise and get plenty of rest.  What's happening??? any suggestions or theories to share????

Hi:  My baby is 8 months old and I'm starting to lose milk too.  My breasts are definitely not as full as they used to be.  I know it is because she is nursing less and less.  She is way too interested in the world around her and becomes easily distracted to nurse for long.  Also now that she started solid foods, she isn't as hungry.  I've read that some babies wean themselves and there isn't much we can do about it.  Not sure if this is like your situation....

Are you drinking lots of water? Can you see your babys jaw pause while nursing and see the swallow?

How old is your baby? I hear, once your body is used to breast feeding your body produces milk when your baby latches whereas in the beginning your horomones are what make the milk.

Kalli is now 13 months old and it doesn't feel like there is milk in there at all but once she latches and my let down comes in I can hear her gulping and watch her swallow.  Make sure you see these signs before you start adding formula (if you still want to BF), the less you bf the less milk your body will start producing because your body will assume your baby is skipping that particular mealtime.  Keep that in mind.

Maybe try nursing first and then topping up with formula.  If your baby is still a newborn the more formula you introduce the less milk your body will supply.

Good luck.

I went to my doctor and got a prescription for domperidone. It started working within 2 days. My nurse also told me about Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. They are herbs you can get at Goodness Me - a little pricy but they worked for me.
